Kull muskirin khomru, wakullu muskirin haromu.

" Any substances which makes you drunk is khamr(alcohol, etc.) and any substance that makes you drunk is haram(forbidden)".

Abuse of narcotics, alcohol (strong drink) and other addictive substances (dangerous, prohibited drugs), which we have abbreviated to NASA (Narcotics, Alcohol, and other Addictive Substances Abuse), has returned to the surface of late after one victim after another has succumbed to them, as reported in mass media.

What is the Islamic concept in the war against NASA? The answer is to adhere firmly to God’s handhold: Religion.

  1. Religious education should be given early in life. Results of scientific research have already proven that young people with weak religious commitment have higher risk (four times) of being involved in NASA compared to those with a strong religious basis. (Cancellaro, Larson, Wilson, 1982; Hawari, 1990).
  2. Religious life in the family should be fostered in an atmosphere of love and affection among father-mother-children. Scientific research has proven that children/young people who grow up in non-religious families have a greater risk of being involved in NASA than those who grow up in religious families (Stinne, J. De Frain, 1987; Hawari, 1990)
  3. Early in life children and teenagers should be made aware that NASA is haram (forbidden by religion), just as eating pork is haram, according to Islam.
